For a musical evening

Dear Friends,

"Many a gem of the purest ray serene ,

The deep unfathomed caves of ocean bear

Many a flower is born to blush unseen

And waste its sweetness on the desert air"

The above lines by the poet Thomas gray, is what comes to mind as i write this. And the reason is that, while bloghopping  at this late hour, i came across some wonderful You Tube links of hindustani classical music on Subodh Deshpande's page (http://www.ssa.rediffiland.com). You can click on the category "music" to find it quickly.

With my limited exposure to classical music, I had never heard of Ustad Sarahang, who, a google search tells me, was a very predominant exponent of classical music from Afganistan. Apart from his recital , Subodh has also shared with us  the musical performances of Pandit Jasraj, Bhimsen Joshi, Parveen Sultana and quite a few others.  It is quite a treat for music lovers.

So  here's inviting you all, on Subodh Deshpande's behalf, to a music filled weekend.
